Check out this post for photos of all the foals that were sold at the 2023 Pony Penning auction held on July 27 by the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company in Chincoteague, Virginia. There was in-person and simultaneous online bidding available. The results were - 71 ponies (including 7 buybacks) sold - $479,000 total in sales (record) - average cost per foal $6,792 - high bid $42,000 (buyback)(record) - low bid $1,800 All photos have sire and dam listed as well as known auction price and number.
“Buyback” refers to foals who will spend their lives on the island and the person who “bought” them is paying for the ability to name the foal, the Fire Company will retain ownership of the foal.
