Commemorative Buyback Registration Details

This is a special program to recognize those who have bought or contributed to the purchase of a buyback.

All buyback donors and buyback groups members are eligible to register their pony and be recognized by ICPAR. Each person must register individually and ponies can be registered more than once if they are owned by a group. 
 Registration Benefits (each individual buyback donor who registers will receive): 
  • A certificate that recognizes their involvement in the donation and naming of the pony
  • One 8x10 photo pedigree featuring the buyback and its recorded 1st & 2nd generation relatives 
  • One photo display folder
  • The option to contribute to the buyback's page on ICPAR's website where donors can share their pony's story.

Registration Eligibility & Important information:
  • ​Applicant must have directly donated toward the purchase of the pony and be recognized as a donor by the buyback group (if pony was bought as a group effort).
  • Applicant must have some form of proof that they donated toward the purchase of the pony (auction receipt, receipt from a group, write up/referral from their group leader or etc). 
  •  An individual Buyback pony is only allowed one registered name (example: "CLG Pennies From Heaven"). If the pony is bought by a buyback group this name must be agreed upon by the entire group and cannot be an exact match to any other pony names in the Chincoteague Pony Pedigree Database. The pony may have an unlimited number of nicknames, these will not be recorded on the registration certificate.
  • The certificate that buyback donors will receive does not constituent as true ownership of the buyback (the CVFC retains all ownership rights). However, it does recognize an individual's involvement in the purchase and naming of the pony. 
  • Buybacks are only allowed one website page per pony, all donor stories for the individual pony will be listed on that page. Individual donors do not get their own pages. Visit our sample page to how it will be structured. 
  • Buyback registration is available for all past and present buybacks. 

Please keep in mind that due to photo and pedigree availability, we cannot always create full photo pedigrees for each pony. ​

​To register your pony please visit the registration application link. When you have finished your application, you have the option to fill out a story submission for your pony. Your answers will be posted on the buyback's ICPAR page under "Registered Buybacks."

Frequently Asked Questions
How does Buyback Registration work for ponies that are owned by groups?
Example: 100 people create a buyback group and call it “Longtime Pony Lovers”, they buy a buyback during Pony Penning week and name it “LPL Singing in the Rain”. 

Q: Who is able to register the pony?
A: All 100 members can individually apply to register this pony and all applicants will receive registration benefits.  

Q: Can an individual register a pony with a name that was not chosen by the group? 
A: No, ICPAR will only register buybacks in the name their group agreed on. 
In the example, the above pony will only be registered as “LPL Singing in the Rain.”

Q: As a buyback donor will I have my own website page for my buyback?
A. Each buyback pony gets a page on ICPAR's website, this page is shared by all the buyback donors for that pony. Individual donors do not get pages for themselves. 
What benefits do i get if I register my buyback?

how does registering help the breed?
A: It allows new Chincoteague pony lovers an opportunity to learn more about each buyback and what makes them so special. All too often stories are forgotten or lost when a pony passes away, ICPAR hopes that the buyback registration program will bring all of these stories together so we can preserve them for everyone to enjoy long after the pony is gone.
Can i post my buyback's story ANONYMOUSLY?
A. Yes, we allow buyback owners the opportunity to post their stories anonymously on our website. 
i don't own a buyback, can i still get a pedigree photo?
A. Yes! We have a separate program where anyone can purchase a buyback pedigree photo, just follow the link for more information.  
my buyback passed away, can i still register?
A. Absolutely, we welcome all past and present buybacks!
dOes THE PHOTO PEDIGREE BACKGROUND COME IN blue LIKE THE souvenir pedigrees?
A: No, the buyback registration photos exclusively come in green, blue is used for the souvenir pedigrees that are available for anyone to buy.
