The International Chincoteague Pony Association & Registry (ICPAR) is dedicated to providing official documentation for the Chincoteague pony breed so that it can preserve past bloodlines, protect future bloodlines, and promote the breed to the public.

Robert Washburn Memorial Award

2025 Annual CVFC Foal Auction
The annual Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company foal auction took place July 31, 2025. Visit our blog post for more information on the sale and this year's records as well as average foal prices.

2026 Chincoteague Pony Pedigree Book Coming soon!
We had an absolutely WONDERFUL response to our 2025 Chincoteague Pony Pedigree book and have officially SOLD OUT of our 2025 edition.

We are in the process of putting together our 2026 edition and hope to release it soon! 
2026 Sponsorship Needed!
The Chincoteague Pony Drill Team has many other fun appearances planned for next Summer! They are a non-profit organization with the goal of showing the world how versatile the Chincoteague pony breed is! If you would like to sponsor them please reach out to them on their Facebook page. 
Training Hours Program
Only available for ponies registered with ICPAR. The Training Hours Program encourages Chincoteague pony owners and handlers to achieve their training goals. Those who log 100, 200, 500, and 1000 hours training their pony can earn certificates recognizing their hard work and dedication!

Need Help IDing Your Pony?

Send us as much information about your pony as possible and we will see if we can find it.

This includes, but is not limited to, the pony’s: name, age, height, sex, any paperwork they have for it, the farm it came from or past owner’s name, sire or dam, and photos clearly showing the pony and any markings it might have.

The more information that you can provide, the better the chance we might be able to ID your pony.

DNA Lab Partnership

ICPAR is officially partnered with Etalon Equine Genetics for the purpose of building a Chincoteague Pony DNA database. If you would like to get your pony tested or see the bloodlines we currently have on file.

Chincoteague Pony Officially Named Virginia's State Pony

On Monday March 27, 2023, the Chincoteague pony became the official state pony of Virginia!! 

We want to extend a special thank you to Sophia Gullivan, of the Chincoteague Pony Drill Team, who came up with the idea and made it a reality!

Registered Ponies Throughout the World!
We have registered over 290 ponies and are getting very close to 300! In 2025 alone we registered 72 ponies and added four more states to our registered pony map. If you would like your pony added to the map, your pony must be registered with ICPAR. Please visit our full or half Chincoteague pony application pages for more information!

How long does it take to get registration papers for my pony
The International Chincoteague Pony Association & Registry is dedicated to processing papers quickly and strives to have papers completed and delivered within 60 days.
Please contact us if you have not received your paperwork in 90 days or if you need to have your paperwork processed quickly. We will try to accommodate you as best we can. 
where can I find information on purchasing a foal from the auction
