Ruby

Ruby

1988 Chestnut Mare
Ruby was purchased for $225 as a Buyback in 1988 she was a solid chestnut with no markings. Her sire was a lovely chestnut stallion named Simon and her dam was a black pinto mare named Laverne II.
Buyback Donor: Kathy O'Dette

Buyback's Donor Story:

Why did you decide to purchase a buyback?
I had already purchased two Chincoteague ponies, one in 1984 and one in 1985. I wanted to make a donation to the CVFD and thought it would be fun to follow "my" pony on future visits to the island.

What is the significance of the foal that you chose?
Ruby had the same dam, and probable sire  as my 1985 pony Chincoteague Chief. That band of ponies was always very special to me, and we followed them for many years.

Why did you choose your buyback's name?
Ruby is a solid chestnut so I thought the name fit her - she was a very special and precious gem to me. I also have a preference for  one or two syllable names so naming her Ruby seemed perfect to me.

Is there any other stories or information you would like to add about your buyback?
I attended the Pony Auction and Swim every year from 1983 - 2003. Ruby's solid color made it impossible to positively identify her throughout that time. There were not detailed records kept like there are now. There were a few ponies that could have been her, but I could never be certain. I hope she had a long life and produced foals to carry on her lines. Sadly I will never know for sure, but the excitement of her purchase will always be  a wonderful memory and she will live in my heart forever.
